Fargesia ‘Rufa’
Fargesia rufa is a clumping bamboo known for its graceful, arching culms (stalks) and dense, vibrant green leaves. Its new canes have a red hue providing a touch of color and visual interest. Its a versatile plant, great for small gardens, privacy hedges, or as an ornamental feature.

8-10’ when planted in the ground.
Light requirements:
Can take full NW sun, though it prefers partial shade or dappled light
Growth Habit:
New shoots appear in early spring and late summer.
A pot of rufa planted in the ground can expand a foot or so in annual circumference. 6 feet of diameter is a recommended minimum for uncrowded, healthy growth.
Mowing and/or line trimming is an effective means to curtail spread. Planting in a one foot mound of soil can further help maintain the shape of the grove.
Characteristic highlight: rufa is a versatile variety of clumping bamboo, known for its delicately arching canes and dense leaves which make it an appealing evergreen privacy screen. It can easily be hedged and also does well in containers. It is a favorite of pandas who eat it in their natural habitat.
